Skelton has posted a wonderful walk-though on how to use your HID/IC badge cards to authenticate at your Sharp copier. The instructions are for the Sharp Phoenix series, but it’s more or less the same procedure in the older models.
If you have employees who need to print confidential documents you can set up the Sharp to store their print jobs when they send them from the computer, and them prompt them to print it all when they use their HID badge to unlock the copier! It’s also useful in environments where several people all use the same copier to print, and their prints get piled on top of each other and mixed up. All you have to do is swipe a badge and wait a few seconds for your print(depending on what it is).
Check out the video of the finished product:
The new Sharp MX-3050N, MX-3070N, MX-3550N, MX-3570N, MX-4050N, MX-4070N, MX-5050N, MX-5070N, MX-6050N, MX-6070N all have the HID/IC card swiping capability. You just need to purchase a reader and have me come out there and set it all up for you. If your office already uses HID cards you can set this up fairly quickly. If I have to provide the swipe cards for you we can do it that way too.
They can even be used to unlock the Sharp copiers using Active Directory credentials to make it even simpler for the IT groups to manage it. If you want to take it a step further and use “follow me” print release you could do that with a product like Drivve Print, or PaperCut. You could send a print to a centralized queue, then badge in at any of the copiers in your office to release your prints.
Reach out to me to order a HID card swiping kit for your Sharp copier, or if you need a new Sharp printer I can help you there as well. If you’re in Houston, TX I’ll even deliver it and set it up for you!
